My name is Daphné Doomun, I am 33 years old. After completing my scientific baccalaureate, I went to France to study at the École de Condé in Nancy. I did a diploma in Visual Communication with a major in Graphic Design, Publishing and Advertising. I then did an internship at Kenzo Mode et Accessoires in Paris as a graphic designer and another one at Givenchy Parfums as a packaging assistant. Then I worked at OXO, Lartisien and now I am at The Lux Collective

How did your passion for art start?
Ever since I was a little girl I always had a pencil in my hand. My mother often took my brother and I to visit the beautiful museums in France. And at school I was mostly drawn to the art classes.

There have been so many jobs I wanted to do before taking the creative route. It was during a presentation in my final year of high school that I realised I wanted to be a graphic designer.

Art has an immense power to represent one’s thoughts. In your work, for instance, we can observe that nature is a recurrent theme. Can you tell us more about your vision and the message you convey through your art?
Nature captures me a lot, because of its shapes, its colours and the way it adapts to its environment. I paint the emotion that i feel at a given time or in a dream that I had. My art is born from a poetic representation of nature mixed with the  joy and melancholy of a landscape that will never exist. In a way I urge the viewer to contemplate a nature that is endangered today.

We have to ask! Where do you get your inspiration from?
This is something I get asked a lot but it’s hard to say, everything inspires me!

An artist maybe?
There are so many artists that inspire me! If I had to choose, I would say Le Douanier Rousseau.

Is there a painting or an illustration you are most proud of?
Yes, Envolée Tropicale. Sometimes you have an idea for a painting and it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. However, this painting is exactly what I intended it to be.

What advice would you give to young aspiring artists?
To always follow and believe in their dreams!

What are some fun new projects that you are currently working on?
I would have loved to share my future projects with you but they are confidential. All I can say is that I can’t wait for you to discover them.
